The Series of 1899 $1 One Dollar Bill was the last series of part silver certificates issued back in the late 1800s. Collectors usually referred to it as nickname "Black Eagle" Note rather than the 1899 $1 Silver Certificate. Illustration of bold black ink Eagle - the national bird appeared at the center of the note, surrounded by plenty of white space, giving it considerably greater significance.

These Black Eagle notes were printed and released from the late 19th century until the 1920s, with over 3 billion notes ending up in circulation. Despite this large number, the "Black Eagle" Note has maintained its allure among many dealers and collectors, primarily due to its unique design elements. The note is distinguished by its use of blue ink for the serial numbers, the seal, and the large numerical indicating the denomination on the left.
What sets the $1 Silver Certificate Series of 1899 apart in numismatic history is the unique distinction of being the only note to ever feature the portraits of two U.S. Presidents on the front – Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant. These two leaders hold a place of honor in American history, and their presence on the note serves as a testament to their impact on the nation.
The note boasts of twelve different varieties of signature combinations and face designs. Of particular interest are the uncommon signature pairings: the Fr.231 Napier-Thompson and Fr.229a Vernon-McClung. These intriguing combinations offer a fascinating look into the people who were responsible for the note's issuance at the time.
With an ornate back design, the 1899 $1 Black Eagle note is one of the last designs to be appreciated in terms of art. And ranked 16th on the list of 100 Greatest American Currency Notes. A must-have item in every collection. Shop now!!!
