Fr.1132-F 1918 $500 Federal Reserve Note Atlanta, PMG 20 Comment
This listing is for sale ONE note ONLY. The scanned image displayed the front and back of the exact note you will receive.
Offered for the first time on our site, this note marks a special opportunity not only for our collectos but also for us—while we've handled dozens of high-denomination small-size notes, this is the first time we're able to present a large-size high-denomination note to our collectors.
The front of the 1918 $500 Federal Reserve Note showcases a detailed portrait of Chief Justice John Marshall, the 4th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835, celebrated as a key figure in American legal history. His image is surrounded by elegant scrollwork, adding to the note’s distinguished design. The treasury and serial numbers were printed in bold blue ink.
The back of the note features a beautifully detailed engraving of Hernando de Soto discovering the Mississippi River, showing the Spanish explorer on horseback, surrounded by his men and Native Americans. It captures a dramatic moment in early American exploration and reflects the incredible craftsmanship and artistry found in U.S. currency from the early 1900s.
This example originates from the Atlanta district and is one of only ten known for this Fr# according to Tracking&Price. The note appears better than its assigned grade. It has a minor repair along the top edge on the back, which is most visible when backlit. These repairs were made to prevent edge tears from worsening on this otherwise evenly circulated note.
