The information about Guinea
Guinea is a small country that belongs to west Africa. The Atlantic ocean lies in the west of Guinea. The area of Guinea is approximately 94, 926 square miles. Its capital and largest city are Cornarky. French is the authorized language in Guinea. Because Guinea was under the control of the French until 1958. After independence, the old currency CFA franc which was created by French colonies was replaced by the first Guinea franc in 1959.
The history of Guinea’s banknotes.
Guinea was a part of the franc zone of French colonies. And was using the CFA franc as their main currency. However, on 2 October 1958, Guinea gained its independence. Not long after that, in 1959, they introduced their banknote called Guinea franc. But it still was affected by the French influences. It was shown effectively by the designs and the arrangements. Besides, it still displays the first President of Guinea, Sékou Touré.
The denominations of coins are in 1, 5, 10, and 25 francs (from aluminum bronze). And the banknotes are in 50 to 10,000 francs. In 1962, the material to make coins was changed to cupronickel.
In 1971, the sylis was first introduced as the new official currency in Guinea.
In 1985, the Guinea franc was reintroduced. There were 25 francs up to 5000 francs in the banknote’s denomination. This time, the features were decorated more with African hypes. Such as a picture of a smiling African woman on the front, on the reverse side is the industries of Guinea like farming, and mining. Ultimately, the second Guinea franc banknotes were unique compared to the others which is the date of issue was displayed outstandingly on the lower left hand of the corner. Over time, Guinea’s banknotes were improving their characteristics, also the security to prevent counterfeiting.
