What is a star note ?
A star note, also known as a replacement note, is a type of note issued by the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP). A note with an asterisk (*) or star following the serial numbers is referred to as a star note. Before US paper money is released as available for general circulation, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing examined it for printing mistakes such as damaged, misprinted, or otherwise imperfect.
Since there were no duplicated notes within a given series that may be manufactured with the same serial numbers, notes that have been printed erroneously are pulled out from printing processing and replaced with star notes when they are found.
They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are extremely scarcer than notes with standard serial numbers. Because they are only issued in small quantities to replace specific faulty notes, and therefore they are not as widely distributed as regular banknotes. As such are widely collected by numismatists.
At Collectibles & Currency, we are the only ones in the market who can supply star notes, especially on the $2 Two Dollars bill which is considered a scarce denomination. Take the first step in becoming a star note collector today.
