The 1869 Series Legal Tender Note is often referred to as the "Rainbow Series" due to the vibrant, multicolored designs used across various denominations. The $20 Twenty Dollars is a part of the "Rainbow Series," these notes were distinguished by the pronounced large blue swath used to help prevent counterfeiting.
On the front is a finely detailed engraving of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers and the first Secretary of the Treasury. His portrait is prominently placed on the left side of the note and framed by intricate patterns. The Goddness Victory with helmet featured on the right side.
The U.S. Treasury Seal in the center is printed in a rich red along with the blue serial numbers printed on upper right and bottom left. This multicolored approach was uncommon at the time, making the note stand out visually. The number 20 appears in multiple places on the front.
The reverse of the 1869 $20 Rainbow Note showcases a intricately designed green engraving. The pattern is a symmetrical fusion of floral and geometric elements, encompassing the majority of the back. This unique design style would later become known as the "greenback" due to the use of green ink.
This stunning example is an incredibly fresh, well preserved Rainbow $20 from this one Friedberg number sub-type, this offering is sure to attract a good deal of attention. PMG graded GEM Uncirculated 65 EPQ. According to the PMG population report, only six Fr.127 notes have been graded as equal and ten have received a higher grade.
