This is the first $5 Five Dollars Legal Tender Note was issued by the goverment. The front of the note featured a small portrait of Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. And the statue of Freedom on the right side. The serial number and treasury seal was printed by a cherry red color.
The back of the note is primarily green, a characteristic that earned the early U.S. currency the nickname "greenbacks." The design is simpler compared to later notes, focusing on the denomination and text rather than elaborate artwork.
This example features a decent shape and stunning overprinted color. All notes during this era were printed on thin paper, making them susceptible to damage during circulation.
This exquisite example displays a distinctive original off-white paper color, complete with the embossed serial number that is clearly visible on the back. It has been graded by PMG as Choice UNC 64 with EPQ designation. Additionally, the inclusion of two-digit serial numbers may add to its value.
