This listing is for sale ONE note ONLY. The scanned image displayed the front and back of the exact note you will receive.
The front design of the 1869 $5 Rainbow Legal Tender Note is a masterpiece of 19th-century engraving, combining intricate artwork with vibrant multicolored inks. Dominating the left side of the note is a finely detailed portrait of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, framed by an ornate border. To the right of Jackson, a vignette of a pioneer family is depicted, symbolizing westward expansion, featuring a man, woman, and child in a rugged frontier setting.
The most notable aspect of this note is its multicolored background. The "Rainbow" nickname comes from the blend of colors used that give it a vibrant appearance. The left side of the note fades into a light blue color, which transitions across the note. The right side features green hues that complement the blue on the left.
The back of the note is primarily green, which is standard for U.S. currency, but it features an intricate design of scrollwork, filigree, and geometric patterns that cover the entire surface.
Upon closer examination, this example exhibits only a slight corner fold. There is a minor closed pinhole which hard to be seen and located at lower right side on the back. PMG graded About UNC 55.
