In early 2003, Vietnam began printing money denominations in polymer, replacing previous banknotes with cotton. In order to reduce printing costs, it saves the state budget. Vietnam is also one of the first pioneers country using polymer marterial for money printing.
At this time, Banknotes made of polymer materials that released were 10.000 VND, 20.000 VND, 50.000 and 100.000 VND. In parallel, Vietnam also released new denominations were 200k and 500k with special designs and high national character.
The color combination of these polymer banknotes also makes it stand out of polymer banknotes at that time.
